Senegal overcomes stubborn Ecuador to qualify for the round of 16 alongside the Netherlands.

No Sadio Mané no problem, Koulibaly is there for the inspiration. The Chelsea defender was the Hero as Senegal beat Ecuador 2 goals to 1 to pick the remaining ticket in group A.

Senegal goes into the match with the full awareness that only a win can see them through, and they prove why they are African champions.

Senegal take the lead in the 44 minutes from the penalty spot, which was well taken by Ismaila Sarr.

The game went to a break with Senegal still leading by 1 goal and in the second half, Ecuador begins to search for an equalizer, they finally get it in the 68 minutes when Moises Caicedo converted Felix Torres’s cross to make the scoreline 1:1.

That goal seems to calm the pressure on the South American team, knowing that a draw guarantees them a round of 16 tickets, but that easiness didn’t last long as Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly pounced on a deflection to put Senegal back in front.

Senegal would hold on to claim all three points and qualify for the round of 16 for the first time since 2002.
