Nollywood Started In Yoruba And They Own It, Says Actress Aisha Lawal.

Nollywood actress Aisha Lawal has said The Nollywood industry was started by Yorubas filmmakers and producers and as a result, they own the industry.

She made this claim in an interview with Tribune.

“We Own the industry, go back to research. The industry belongs to the Yoruba people. If you go back to research, you will from people like Hubert Ogunde and Ade Love. I don’t want to go into details but, if you go and research very well, you will discover that Yorubas own this industry. We messed up at some point, but we are not playing catch-up. We are there already. Now everybody wants to shoot a Yoruba movie”.

However, this claim did not sit well with a lot of Nigerians, as a lot of people have expressed their disappointment toward such a claim while others bash her by calling her a tribal bigot.
